My sister introduced me to artist Jason de Caires Taylor recently and iv been meaning to share this one for a while but hadn't gotten around to it. Jason creates life size cement sculptures and then submerges them into the waters of South America.
As time goes on the sculptures become part of the underwater landscape, reefs start to form and create a haven for sea creatures highlighting the natural ecological process, only adding to the beauty of this project (nature truly is the greatest inventor).
Taylor goes into great detail on his site about how different it is for the viewer to experience art under water rather then in a traditional gallery sense, noting-
"The experience of being underwater is vastly different from that of being on land. There are physical and optical considerations that must be taken into account. Objects appear twenty five percent larger underwater, and as a consequence they also appear closer."
an aspect that he clearly feels enhances his creation.
This is truly one of the most beautiful creations iv seen in a long time, big kudos!
